The Role
The Independent Fishing Tackle Sales Representative is an independent contractor who drives sales efforts for the Shimano brands by establishing, developing, and maintaining key relationships with Territory Accounts.
Reporting into the Regional Sales Manager, and operating as self-employed individual or agency, the duties and responsibilities of the Fishing Tackle Sales Representative include but are not limited to:
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key dealers, distributors, and retail partners in the assigned territory.
- Leading the development of strategic territory plans.
- Executing sales strategies to drive new and existing business to increase Shimano’s market share.
- Becoming an expert in fishing tackle and accessories.
- Forecasting business as it relates to the upcoming selling season.
- Conducting regular in-person visits to accounts to present new products, provide training, and gather market feedback.
- Prospecting and opening new dealer accounts to expand brand presence in the territory.
- Achieving sales targets – seasonal and monthly goals.
- Assisting in forecasting and planning for seasonal and promotional product demand.
- Submitting timely call reports, dealer visit reports, and territory updates to the Regional Sales Manager.
- Ensuring sales objectives are met within strict deadlines.
- Obtaining re-orders and at-once business.
- Ensuring accounts are merchandised effectively, using branded POP and display solutions.
- Where necessary, supporting marketing efforts, such as attending trade shows, exhibits, dealer in-stores and other events.
This position is based in Western Canada and requires frequent travel within the territory of British Columbia and Alberta. |

You are someone who is passionate about the outdoors and action sports. You have a proven ability to sell and grow sales in an assigned territory. You are a team player and excel at building and maintaining effective relationships. You take pride in your work and are a self-starter, motivated to be successful. Your profile:
- You are registered as a Canadian business.
- Five years’ experience in sales within the sporting goods / fishing industry.
- Strong knowledge of fishing techniques, products and regional fisheries.
- Strong analytical capabilities, with the ability to analyze sales reports and recognizing potential.
- Excellent influencing and persuading skills in a sales environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Power BI, Teams, and advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Proficient with SalesForce.
- High level of industry expertise and in-depth industry knowledge an asset.
- Availability to travel long distances multiple times within each season.
- Ability to travel into the USA on occasion.
