VR Pro is announcing the return of its popular Canada Day race, and not only is this 15-year-old event happening in person this summer, but it’s also happening in two amazing locations.
“This event is a great way to celebrate Canada Day with the whole family,” says Jessica Brake, VR Pro race director. “We kick the celebrations off with a kids 1K event where parents and children can run together. Next comes the 5K run/walk. Whether you are looking to set a PB or just want to have a good time, this race is for you.”
The annual Canada Day race is one of VR Pro’s most popular events. So this year, the team, which also produces races such as the Chilly Half Marathon, chose two locations from which to run the event.
“The first location will be at our usual spot at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington,” says Jessica Brake, VR Pro race director. “The second and new location will be downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake!”
The new race route will take participants on a scenic tour of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Race participants can race in the morning and then spend the rest of the day celebrating in the town of NOTL.
For those not familiar with Niagara-on-the-Lake it is easily one of the most scenic and charming small towns in the province and worth a visit on any occasion let alone for a fun race.
“The NOTL race will be taking place on the main streets of NOTL, participants will run by three of Niagara's wineries including Peller Estates,” Brake says.
As is the tradition, the Burlington race takes place at Spencer Smith Park and the route follows along Burlington's beautiful waterfront trail all the way out to the lighthouse.
It will be the first time VR Pro has been able to host the event in person after two years of virtual runs. And, as a result, interest in this one is high.
“Races are officially back and many runners are eager to line up at a starting line,” Brake says. “Our Canada Day race has been held as a virtual event for the past two years and we know many of our runners are looking forward to getting back to celebrating in person.”
Everyone who participates in the race will receive a one-of-a-kind technical Canada Day celebration T-shirt as well as a crystal finisher medal.
"We are hoping that everyone will come together and run or walk 5K or 1K with us to celebrate this great country of ours,” says Kelly Arnott, co-founder of VR Pro Races.
